Renovation and extension of the national monument Amstel station
Amsterdam Amstel Station, designed by H.G.J. Schelling, J. and C. Leupen van Eesteren, is a national monument and first opened in 1939. The station was a progressive design for its time; efficiently connecting various traffic flows within the station in a manner that continues to function today. The classic-modern vocabulary of the design is characterized by a sequence of typologically distinct spaces, each with unique qualities and natural lighting solutions. The refined brick, steel, and stone material palette of the ensemble was particularly rich for its time.
