The scaffolding is gone and the result may already be there. The roof of the construction of "De Utrecht", Leeuwarden has a new skin.
The roof is equipped with 5 different ceramic 3D tiles manufactured by Koninklijke Tichelaar. On each façade surface the triangular tiles are applied in different combinations. The elements are glazed by hand in a beautiful vibrant metallic gold/bronze glaze. This glaze in combination with the 3D shapes and the different light incursions, gives a different pattern and rhythm on the roof and façade.
The tiles were designed by Borren Staalenhoef Architecten BV bna in co-creation with Koninklijke Tichelaar and correspond in shape to the triangular windows in the structure.
"De Utrecht" is a special monumental building, designed by A.J. Kropholler and J.F. Staal, in the Jugendstil style at the Tweebaksmarkt in Leeuwarden and served for many years as a branch of the life insurance company "Utrecht". A few years ago, the national monument was sold with the aim of reviving the building and opening it up to the public.
