The Cals College is located in IJsselstein. It is a large secondary school that offers education at different levels. The number of students increased annually, leading to the frequent use of nearby buildings. With an eye towards the future, an expansion of the building became necessary. From 2017 to 2019 the construction took place.

BDG Architecten designed the building. The school’s core values, future-oriented, connected, and unicity, played a significant role in the design. The spaces encourage students to come together, and the large glass windows create transparency within the building. In three phases, additional classrooms, an expansion of an already existing wing, and a renovation of the laboratory wing were realized. Koninklijke Tichelaar was responsible for glazing the façade bricks of the building.

In total, 4,500 bricks were glazed in a specially developed blue glaze. The bricks enhance the appearance of the building, and each brick has a unique look. This symbolizes the individual students, who together form a unity.
