special developed tile with profiling, glazed with a reactive glaze

For the newly built auditorium at the Neude Library in Utrecht, Koninklijke Tichelaar has created a special tile with profiling and glazed this with a reactive glaze. The combination of the shape with the reactive glaze enhances the character of the tile, giving the building a unique look. In addition, we can mention that the old building already in the 1970s was equipped with roof tiles from Tichelaar.

The old post office had one weak point: the back on the Oude Gracht. Since 1924 there was a small courtyard with a transformer house behind a fence that formed a disfigureon on the busy canal. Here, according to a design by Rijnboutt architects, a half classic, half modernist building part has been eraised. With its sturdy base and façade of glass and vertical ribs of ceramic tiles, it is nicely in line with the old building. The new building houses the brasserie and auditorium of the library above a shop, from where visitors look out over the old Utrecht. Thus, the old, equally imperfect post palace has now been turned into a perfect folk palace.
