With the realization of a new entrance, courtyard and specially built underground gallery for temporary exhibitions, the Exhibition Road project will show the best of modern design, as well as the beauty of the original structure of the V & A. After an extensive international competition, Amanda Levete Architects (AL_A) has been appointed as a designer and has contacted us. It will be the first courtyard in the United Kingdom to be tiled with porcelain tiles. This choice of material responds specifically to the structure of the original building and its collections, including numerous striking examples of 19th-century decorated ceramics. The courtyard will act as a place for installations and events and will be served by a glass-fronted café. Click here for a short impression or here to see the production of the porcelain tiles, that starts at te markt of appr. 5:48 minutes.
